PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Overlooking Galway Bay, Spideal, Co. Galway, this 350 square meter detached bungalow-over-basement home.

The method of construction is masonry wide cavity, on top of basement, which was built with reinforced concrete retaining walls.

With Mannion Passive House Builders completing the PHPP calculations and as the main building contractor, this low energy home achieved an A3 BER rating, it is airtight with MVHR and an inline air warming duct radiator. Solar thermal panels were installed to heat water and additional heat is supplied by a Brunner solid fuel stove.

  • Heat Recovery: Pro air 600L unit, 94% efficient
  • U-Values: Foundations – 0.11 W/(m2k), Roof – 0.10 W/(m2k), External Walls – 0.12 W/(m2k)
  • Windows & Glazing: Uw-value = 0.85 W/(m2k), Ug- value = 0.6 W/(m2k)
  • BER: A3
